Handcrafted Simpatico Collection (2010)

The handcrafted Simpatico Collection (2010) delivers comfort and elegance in one exquisite package. Wonderfully simple and with barely a seam in sight, there’s a gracefulness to the shape of these pieces. Upholstered with what’s called waterfall tailoring, the cushions and frames are sewn with one continuous piece of fabric wrapping over the front, from top to bottom or side to side. The cushions are finished with a boxing strip around the sides and constructed without welting or visible stitches. It takes expertise and careful planning to upholster this way, but before you think Simpatico sounds too precious for everyday living, think again. Deep seats, wide armrests (a magnificent perch for your laptop) and down-blend throw pillows make Simpatico a great place to hang out. Adjust the back cushions to find your perfect seat depth or stretch out for a comfortable nap. Made in U.S.A.

Reid Leather Seating

Not just for sitting, the Reid Collection (2007) invites you to watch movies, take a nap or surf on a laptop. Maximizing the enjoyment of downtime is something Jeffrey Bernett is passionate about since he spends a fair bit of his free time doing extreme sports, and he held nothing back when creating Reid with design partner Nicholas Dodziuk. Unlike sofas where you sit “on top” of the cushions, the experience of Reid is more of a “relaxed sit” thanks to down- and feather-wrapped foam. The back cushions are filled with a soft blend of down and feathers, the seat depths suit various lounging positions and the wide armrests offer support from elbow to wrist. Made in U.S.A.

Cini Boeri CB Lounge collection (2008)

Cini Boeri’s approach to design is all about flexibility and mobility. Her generously scaled CB Lounge collection (2008) allows the user to sit how they like: Deep, wide seats and substantial arms create an invitation to lounge any which way. Locking casters on the back legs of the Lounge Chair and Sofa further the flexibility of these pieces. Boeri’s partnership with Knoll dates back to the 1970s, when she designed showrooms for the company in France, Germany, Italy and Los Angeles.

Pfister

Charles Pfister was our kind of modernist. “There is a movement away from throw-away society, away from disposable possessions,” said Pfister. “Instead, there is a mounting interest in useful, sculptural, wonderfully constructed objects.” His lounge collection (1971) is both sculptural and wonderfully constructed, embodying his intent to design items that display “opulence without waste.” Pfister was based in San Francisco (another reason we’re fans) and had a measurable effect on the world of corporate interiors in the late 20th century. Looking at his timeless namesake collection, it’s easy to see why.

Bantam Seating Collection

In the mid-20th century, a soft, less-machined brand of modernism arose in the United States that was aimed at simplifying life by comfortably modernizing it. Our Bantam Collection takes its inspiration from this period while taking advantage of the technical advances since. Influenced by the furnishings of Edward J. Wormley, the Bantam Sofa and Armchair are finely upholstered with a fitted back and a single row of button tufting. Matching piping along the seams reinforces the clean lines of Bantam’s frame, which is CNC precision cut with interlocking joints that are corner blocked for added stability and strength.
